Refunds and Cancellation
When money comes back, and how. Last updated 28 August 2026.
The short version
Money that has not been released is still recoverable. Money already released to a freelancer is not, except by their agreement. Everything below follows from that.
Before work starts
A funded milestone on which no work has been submitted can be cancelled by agreement between the client and the freelancer, and the funds return to the client in full, including the commission.
After work is submitted
If the client accepts the work, the milestone is released and it is not refundable. If the client rejects it, the freelancer may revise and resubmit, or the two sides may agree to cancel and return the funds.
Where the two cannot agree, either may raise a dispute. We look at what was agreed and what was delivered, and we may return the funds to the client, release them to the freelancer, or split them. That decision settles only the money we hold.
The commission
Where a milestone is refunded in full, the 7% commission is refunded with it. Where a milestone is split, the commission is charged only on the part released to the freelancer.
How a refund reaches you
A refund goes back by the route the payment came in — to the same card or account. We cannot send it somewhere else, a nd we cannot send it faster than the card networks move.
Expect several working days, and longer across a currency boundary. Your bank, not this platform, decides the final timing.
Currency conversion and processor fees are not always recoverable. A payment converted on the way in and converted back on the way out can return slightly less than it started as. That difference is the processor's, not ours.
Chargebacks
If you believe something has gone wrong, raise it with us first. A chargeback filed while a dispute is open freezes the funds with the card network and takes the outcome out of everyone's hands, usually for months.
